EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Pink Iron Fitness, the only women-only gym in the Borderland, has opened a new location on El Paso’s east side.
Co-owner Valeria Bernal said the gym aims to create a non-intimidating and safe environment for women.
We are a women-founded gym for women by women,” Bernal said. “The vision behind this is we wanted to create a safe environment for women where they feel comfortable. And then we were here to guide them to reach their goals. So we want to create more than just a women’s gym. We want to create a community, a women community.
The decision to expand to the east side came after receiving numerous requests from women in the area, Bernal said.
“We’ve had a very good response from the women here in El Paso. So on social media, they always ask us, when are you going to open on the east side? We have a lot of public there. So we just decided to do it and simply we were able to open our doors this year. And we’ve had a very good response from the east side.”
Bernal noted that many women feel intimidated in mixed-gender gyms, which is why Pink Iron Fitness has been well-received.
“We’ve had a lot of women that come here because even myself when I used to go to gym, like mixed gender gym, I wouldn’t feel comfortable because it’s intimidating sometimes. So a lot of our members tell us that they are thankful that we opened a gym but for women,” she said.
The gym offers a variety of classes, including cardio, strength, resistance, yoga, weight training, and personal training. It also features a smoothie bar and a reformer Pilates studio at the new location.
Bernal emphasized that Pink Iron Fitness is more than just a gym.
“We have built a very strong women committee where we support each other and we’re not maybe we’re more than just a gym. Like we are a community where we just become friends with our members, you know, so it’s a safe place for women to also like hang out, like leave the world behind and come here and enjoy like your meet time.”
