Admissions under this initiative are being offered at the university’s Sangolli Rayanna First Grade College in Belagavi for the 2025–26 academic year.Vice-chancellor Prof MC Thyagaraja told TOI that 36 students already enrolled under the scheme. The initiative is open to all students, regardless of caste or community.”Once classes begin, we will also meet with their parents. If we find that the students come from economically weaker backgrounds, we will provide them free hostel accommodation along with food and other necessary facilities,” Prof Thyagaraja added.While acknowledging the financial strain the initiative may place on the college’s administration, Prof Thyagaraja said, “We undertook this effort keeping in mind the welfare and future of meritorious students. They should not be denied access to education due to financial hardship. If students continue to perform well academically, the free facilities will be extended throughout their degree courses.
