Two months ago, NU had advertised a total of 110 teaching posts on a contractual basis but raised the eligibility bar. Acting VC Madhvi Khode Chavre said they would be taking the remaining teachers on a clock hour basis. The decision was taken as per the full-time requirement of workload and financial liability, she said. The acting VC added that the teaching part would not be hampered due to low recruitment. The university decided to appoint 110 assistant professors on a contract basis for the 2025-26 academic year. The monthly payout was increased to Rs40,000. The minimum qualification was scaled to NET/SET or a PhD degree. Several postgraduate departments are currently operating without full-time teachers or with deficient staff. The previous recruitment drive for regular positions was stalled due to technical hurdles. As per the advertisement, Science and Technology seemed to have the highest vacancy as 40 posts were to be filled. Social Sciences had 24 posts. Humanities had 11 posts (in languages). Commerce and Management had 6 posts. Interdisciplinary Studies had 9 posts. Centre for Specialised Studies had 3 posts. University College of Education and Law College had 17 posts.
