Nitish Kumar Assures Amit Shah of Loyalty to NDA

'Committed mistake twice': In presence of Amit Shah, Nitish Kumar says he will 'never again' leave NDA

Admits Past Mistakes, Promises No More Exits

NEW DELHI: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday assured Union Home Minister Amit Shah that he would remain in the BJP-led NDA alliance, calling his past departures “mistakes.”

“I committed the mistake twice, but it is going to be never again,” Kumar said at a function in Patna. With assembly elections approaching, he made this statement while inaugurating several projects alongside Shah.

Amit Shah Highlights BJP’s Prospects in Bihar

Amit Shah, former BJP president, addressed party workers on Saturday night. He reportedly stated that BJP’s victory in Bihar would have a significant impact beyond the state. On Sunday, he concluded his two-day visit with a meeting at Kumar’s residence, where leaders from NDA allies were also expected.

A Display of Unity at the Event

During the event, Shah and Kumar appeared cordial. Addressing the gathering, Kumar pointed to the large turnout, saying, “This sprawling auditorium has been filled beyond capacity.”

He also credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for making him Bihar’s chief minister. “Respected Atal Bihari Vajpayee made me CM. We have done much work,” he said.

Criticism of Previous Governments

Kumar, known for his emphasis on secularism, criticized past governments, particularly the RJD-Congress alliance. “What did the ones in power before do? They got votes from Muslims but never stopped clashes between communities,” he claimed.

He further stated that Bihar lacked proper healthcare and good educational facilities before his government took office in 2005. He credited his administration for bringing improvements.

Kumar’s Political Journey with BJP

Nitish Kumar has had a fluctuating alliance with the BJP. He first allied with the party in the mid-1990s but ended ties in 2014. He returned to the NDA in 2017, then left again in 2022 to join the opposition INDIA bloc. However, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he rejoined the BJP-led NDA.

In his speech, Kumar said his past decisions to leave BJP were influenced by individuals within his own party.
