Chandigarh: A special CBI court in Chandigarh acquitted former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Nirmal Yadav and four others on Saturday in the 2008 cash-at-judge’s-door case.
The case involved a Rs 15 lakh cash packet, which was wrongly delivered to the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur on August 13, 2008. Investigators claimed the money was intended for Justice Nirmal Yadav as a bribe to influence a property deal.
Court Verdict & Key Developments
CBI Special Judge Alka Malik announced the verdict, clearing all five accused. However, one of them passed away during the trial.
Defence lawyer Vishal Garg confirmed that the court found no evidence to convict Justice Yadav and her co-accused.
On Thursday, the court completed the final arguments in the case, which the CBI had filed against Justice Yadav. It then scheduled the verdict for March 29.
Case Background & CBI Investigation
The CBI initiated a probe after the mystery cash delivery created controversy. Authorities suspected that the money was part of a larger bribery scheme linked to a real estate transaction.
Despite the accusations, the court ruled in favor of the accused, citing lack of substantial proof.
