Students said they were also assured that those who participated in protests won’t suffer academic loss.Nagpur: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur, on Wednesday rolled back its decision to suspend students and bar them from appearing in examinations, following campus protests.On Tuesday, first and second-year MBA students launched a protest after several students were debarred from exams and temporarily suspended from the MBA programme for partying outside the campus on Saturday night (February 21). After the protest, the institute withdrew both punitive measures. On Wednesday, the second-year students were allowed to appear in their scheduled final exams, while first-year students appeared in their term-3 mid-term exams. The first-year students who missed their exam on Tuesday will be given another chance after their last paper. Students said they were also assured that those who participated in protests won’t suffer academic loss.Earlier, the IIM administration had barred only first-year students from appearing in the exam. Apprehending similar action, the second-year students resorted to protest. IIM officials said some first-year students did appear in the exam and did not take part in the protest. As of now, they are not required to appear in the re-exam.Officials reiterated there was no change in the policy on leaving the campus during night hours. “Earlier the deadline was midnight, now revised to 10 pm. There’s no change, as it is a matter of safety and security for students. This also does not mean blanket restrictions on going out. Students seek permission, inform parents, and are allowed to go out by submitting an undertaking,” they said.
