Devendrappa H, registrar (evaluation) at MU, said close to 2,500 students studying under the university faced the issue.Mangaluru: After nearly 10 months of waiting, hundreds of students whose exam fees were deducted more than once on an exam portal received a refund after several cross-check processes.Due to a payment gateway glitch at the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS), many students complained that their fee amount was deducted more than once. They had appealed for an immediate refund.Jayakar Bhandary, principal of Dr P Dayananda Pai – P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, Mangaluru, confirmed the refund. He said that after producing enough documents, they received a cheque from Mangalore University (MU), and a later amount was refunded to each candidate. “However, such an issue was not experienced this time when students paid exam fees for upcoming first, third, and fifth-semester examinations,” he said.The other colleges also added that they received refunds, and the same was distributed to students. Devendrappa H, registrar (evaluation) at MU, said close to 2,500 students studying under the university faced the issue. “After cross-verification of Unique Transaction Reference and other payment details, we refunded the amount to the respective colleges. There were a few that had issues with payment details, and the same have been rectified,” he said.Dr Bhagyavana S Mudigoudra, project director (UUCMS), said that they are planning to upgrade the payment gateway for smoother payment. “We resolved the issue of transaction failures, and the success rate has improved compared to last time. Also, those who made more than one payment, either fee or other transactions, have been refunded,” he added.To further enhance the payment system used by thousands of students across the state, the upgraded UUCMS plans to have some funds available in the payment gateway. “So that amount is refunded instantly whenever money is deducted more than once. It will soon be incorporated into the payment gateway,” he added.
