The arrest came after nursing students staged a prolonged protest over multiple daysHisar: In connection with an FIR registered by Hansi police following complaints by students of Khushi College of Nursing in Kagsar village in Narnaund, the police on Thursday arrested college chairman Jagidash Swami and produced him before a court in Hansi. The court remanded him to judicial custody. Prior to producing him in court, the police took the accused chairman to the college premises, where the alleged scene of the crime was demarcated and formally marked as part of the investigation. Police officials said that provisions of the SC/ST Act were also added to the case. The arrest came after nursing students staged a prolonged protest over multiple days, which concluded on Wednesday evening after Hansi MLA Vinod Bhayana, in the presence of representatives of various khap panchayats, announced that the chairman was arrested and that SC/ST Act sections were being invoked in the FIR. An FIR was registered against chairman Jagidash Swami, his son Amandeep Goswami, and his wife under Sections 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(3) (common intention) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita. Police said statements of 8 to 9 students were recorded before the case was registered. One of the complainants alleged that while she was on her way to the mess, the chairman called her, took her to a bathroom, molested her, and attempted to remove her clothes. The FIR also mentions allegations that he later called her to another student’s room and forced her to massage his favourite student’s feet.
